Release Blitz + Excerpt + Review: "Doctor Dreamy" by Alana Jade

I'm pleased to participate in the release blitz celebrating "Doctor Dreamy" by Alana Jade today.

"Doctor Dreamy" was the story of San Francisco-based surgeons Chelsea Mitchell and Cameron Chase, who met when Chelsea was pressed into service as a last-minute bridesmaid at her cousin Sara's wedding to Cameron's best friend Matthew. Despite a 15-year age gap, Cameron and Chelsea were instantly attracted to one another and ended up spending the night of the wedding together. When Chelsea discovered that Cameron was about to become her new residency supervisor, however, she panicked and sneaked out in the middle of the night.

Cameron was disappointed to find Chelsea gone in the morning, but understood the reasons for her behavior as soon as he started his new job the following week and learned that their hospital had implemented a strict no fraternization policy. However, it became increasingly difficult for Chelsea and Cameron to deny their feelings as they spent hours every day working together and realized what a great team they made. Finally, they started dating in secret and even fell in love, but would they be able to withstand the pressure of keeping their relationship a secret from even their closest family and friends?

I totally understood and empathized with the conflict between Cameron and Chelsea regarding keeping their relationship a secret. Even though it was difficult for her, I really admired Chelsea for being clear with Cameron on what she wanted from the relationship and refusing to accept anything less. However, the secondary conflict involving their colleague Dr. Atkins seemed somewhat convoluted to me. Dr. Atkins was already involved with the chief of surgery, so why she couldn't just ask him to have Chelsea reassigned? It would have been a lot simpler (and probably more successful) than the scheme she ultimately masterminded involving her intern, Marcel.

Aside from that one slightly confusing/frustrating plot point, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it for all fans of contemporary/workplace romance. Chelsea and Cameron were well-matched, both professionally and personally, and it was easy to root for them to overcome the various challenges they faced. I look forward to checking out more of Alana Jade's work in the future.

About "Doctor Dreamy"

A single night.
That’s all it took.
Caught up in the moment. He blew my mind.
It was just a wedding fling, and we would never see each other again, right?

Being paired with Doctor Dreamy wasn’t something I was prepared for.
The night was unforgettable, in more ways than one.
The connection was instant, but all good things come to an end.

But those blue eyes can’t be mistaken.
The new supervising doctor starting today at my hospital is none other than Doctor Dreamy.

It’s my final year of residency, but the memory of his body drives me wild. I need to fight these feelings with everything I have…
But he’s resisting this energy we have by pretending he doesn’t know me.

So, I have a choice to make.
But is he worth the risk…

We sit in silence for a few moments. Each time our eyes meet, we both awkwardly smile at each other before looking away as though we’re nervous teens. Deciding I need to break the ice, I think of a generic thing to say. “Glad the night’s nearly over?”

“Yes and no.”

“Both?” I laugh.

“Yes, because I can’t wait to get out of this itchy dress,” she groans, tugging at the frill around her neck.”

“It doesn’t look comfortable.” I laugh.

“It’s not the worst bridesmaid dress I’ve seen. A friend from med school got married about a year ago, and she had her girls wearing these lemon-yellow dresses with a large hat in the same color and a parasol. They all looked like Little Bo Peep.” A roar of laugher escapes Chelsea, and her laugh is music to my ears.

“Doesn’t sound appealing.” I shake my head. “And no?”

“Sorry?” she asks.

“You said yes and no… you didn’t tell me what the no is.”

My eyes fixate on her mouth as she draws in a corner. In my eyes, it’s the sexiest move a woman can make, and it drives me wild.

Keep yourself calm, Cameron. You don’t want to come across as desperate.

“Ah, well. Umm… no, because I’m kinda having a good time… with you.” A pink hue forms on her cheeks as she looks away from me.

“I know what you mean. That’s how I feel, too.”

Chelsea clasps her hands together on her lap before slowly turning her head back to me. A smile pulls at the corner of her lips as our eyes connect.

“I’m going to do the manly thing and ask something I wouldn’t normally ask.”

“Okay,” she whispers. Her eyes never leaving mine.

“Can I kiss you, Chelsea?”
