Review: "Reckless Boy" by Lola West

Reckless Boy

Reckless Boy by Lola West
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Following a career-ending knee injury, Ryan Stewart escaped to Martha's Vineyard for a summer of partying and drinking while he mourned his lost dream of playing professional soccer. He didn't know what the future held for him anymore, and even though his sister Bug and best friend Jack were obviously worried about his reckless behavior, he couldn't quite seem to care. The only time he felt a spark of interest was when he saw the girl next door through her window, quietly reading for hours at a time. Leah McCarthy lived in the cottage her mother had left her and found peace in fictional worlds, surrounded by things that reminded her of happier times. Ryan and his noisy parties disturbed that peace, however. She expected to dislike him on sight, but instead found herself drawn to the vulnerability she sensed in him.

Ryan and Leah's romance was a classic case of opposites attract; outgoing Ryan was always the life of the party, while introverted Leah was happiest when surrounded by her books or in the company of a few close friends. Despite their differences, neither could deny their instant connection or intense, steamy chemistry. Their main problem was that Ryan was convinced he had nothing to offer Leah, who came from a wealthy family. Leah refused to give up on him without a fight, however.

Overall, "Reckless Boy" was a short, sweet, yet deliciously steamy story with likeable characters I couldn't help rooting for. I recommend this novella for all fans of steamy contemporary/new adult romance.
