Release Blitz + Review: "Yours to Keep" by Claudia Burgoa

I'm pleased to take part in today's release blitz promoting "Yours to Keep" by Claudia Burgoa, the sixth and final book of the Baker’s Creek Billionaire Brothers series. It's a standalone in the sense that it focuses on a different couple than the ones featured in the earlier books of the series, but the stories all build on one another and include pieces of an overarching mystery related to the Aldridge brothers' inheritance from their estranged father, William, which wraps up in this book. New readers won't be completely lost by starting here, but reading the series in order is likely to provide the best experience.

 

"Yours to Keep" told the story of retired Delta Force operative Vance Aldridge and neurosurgeon Dr. Darren "Dare" Russell, whose romance was a classic example of opposites attract. Flirty, outgoing Dare was smitten almost from the moment they met, but taciturn Vance did everything he could to avoid the handsome doctor. In fact, he was so successful in ignoring Dare's attempts at flirtation that Dare thought Vance might be straight for almost half the book. They finally started to see each other in a different light after Vance volunteered to fly Dare to Portland to consult on a patient as an excuse to get out of Baker's Creek for the day. The relationship grew quickly from there, but neither Dare nor Vance intended for them to become anything more than friends with benefits. 

Vance was dealing with serious emotional trauma from his childhood, his time in the military, and his post-military work with a "private security" company that turned out to be a mercenary group with questionable ethics. For a long time, he was completely closed off to emotions, but guilt from his role in recent events that nearly led to his brother Beacon's death made it difficult to stay numb. After being forced into therapy by his prospective future employer, Vance finally started to work through everything that had happened to him. I loved seeing him slowly open himself up to Dare as well as to his five brothers, who became a true family over the course of the series.

Finally, I was very excited to learn the truth of William Aldridge's past and why he forced Vance and his brothers to live together in Baker's Creek for 18 months. The answers were not at all what I was expecting, but I loved the twist because it leaves the door open for a return to Baker's Creek in the future.

Overall, "Yours to Keep" was a satisfying conclusion to the series and I would recommend it for all fans of contemporary and M/M romance. I look forward to Claudia Burgoa's next release.
