Blog Tour + Review: "Romance by the Book" by Sarah Ready

Today, I'm very excited to participate in the blog tour celebrating "Romance by the Book" by Sarah Ready, book #3 of the Soul Mates in Romeo series. Characters from previous books make appearances in this one, but it reads as a complete standalone.

"Romance by the Book" was a delightful enemies-to-lovers romance featuring endearing, three-dimensional characters and an amusing, fast-paced plot. After watching two of her best friends fall in love, librarian Jessie was thrilled to finally get her turn when Miss Erma, the famous "soul mate psychic" of Romeo, NY, announced that she'd had a vision of Jessie's soul mate. According to Miss Erma, Jessie was destined to be with "the Williams boy," but which one? There were actually two Williams boys, identical twins Gavin and Will. Following Miss Erma's clarification that Jessie's soul mate was "the one she's loved since she was a child," Jessie was certain that it must be Gavin. After all, Jessie had secretly been in love with Gavin (and hated Will) since she was 8 years old. The only problem? Gavin was about to marry another woman, and there was no way his brother Will would allow Jessie to stop the wedding.

The chemistry between Will and Jessie was incredible from the outset, and I loved the way they bantered and teased each other. They were both so determined to get their way, and their efforts to best each other resulted in a lot of laughs. My favorite was Jessie's attempt to re-create the spaghetti scene from "Lady and the Tramp" with Gavin, which ended in disaster (and a food fight) after Will intervened. However, despite all the laughs, there were quite a few serious moments in this story as well, mainly related to the emotional baggage both Will and Jessie were carrying from their tough childhoods and family situations. The more I learned about what they'd been through, the more I wanted to give each of them a hug! They both deserved happiness, and I was so happy to see them find it with each other.

Just like the first two books in this series, "Romance by the Book" gave me all the feels and I adored it. I highly recommend this book for fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy and can't wait to find out what Sarah Ready has in store for us next.

About "Romance by the Book"

Welcome to Romeo, NY where it's not a matter of if you find your soul mate, only when.

Book-loving librarian Jessie has loved Gavin Williams for practically her whole life. So when a psychic predicts that Gavin is Jessie’s one fated soul mate, she’s ecstatic.

There’s just one itty bitty little problem.

Gavin’s engaged to marry another woman.

What’s a book lover to do? Easy. Check out dozens of romance books, study the (totally realistic) way characters fall in love, and make a foolproof plan on how to win her soul mate (in one week).

Meet cute? Check.

Dance under the stars? Check.

Kiss in the rain? Check.

Romance books don’t lie – it’ll all go perfectly.

Except, there’s another problem. Gavin’s twin brother: William Williams IV.

Jessie has hated William for as long as she’s loved his brother. William is grump to Jessie’s sunshine, standoffish to her extrovert, cold to her warm. And when William learns of Jessie’s plan to derail his brother’s engagement he swears that he’ll do anything to stop her.

But after William and Jessie (unwillingly) share a dance…a romantic dinner…a kiss…Jessie starts to wonder, is William actually her soul mate? Or is this just another one of his games?

She can’t tell, because this romance definitely isn’t going by the book.
