Professional hockey player Caspian Spearman is helping out in the tasting room of his family's vineyard in the final days of the off-season when he meets veterinarian Rys, who is celebrating the upcoming start of her new job with a girls' weekend in wine country. There's an immediate connection between them, so when Rys's friend abandons her, Caspian seizes the chance to invite her to spend the evening with him. Three years later, they're still on each other's minds even though neither is willing to admit it. Rys is doing her best to move on and is even sort of dating another hockey player she met on a blind date. She decides to surprise her new boyfriend in Las Vegas during All-Star Weekend, but Rys ends up being the one surprised when she walks in on him with another woman. Heading to the bar to drown her sorrows, she runs into Caspian, who sets out to make her feel better with a night of gambling and tipsy truth or dare. When they wake up the next morning, their memories of the night before are fuzzy, but they soon learn that their final dare involved a quickie wedding, which has already gone viral. For the sake of Caspian's career, Rys agrees to stay married until the media attention dies down, but she's determined not to let herself get too attached to her temporary husband. Caspian doesn't want to let Rys go, however. Can he convince her that there's a permanent place for her in his life?
This light, fun story was truly a pleasure to read; in fact, it's my favorite book of the series so far. Caspian and Rys had amazing chemistry and I loved their flirty, witty banter. Caspian was seriously swoon-worthy and he fell so hard he fell for Rys. I completely understood her fears about fitting into his world, but with a bit of help from friends like Hadley Aldridge, Rys handled herself beautifully.
I highly recommend "My Favorite Mistake" for all fans of contemporary/sports romance and romantic comedy. I can't wait for the rest of Caspian's siblings to get their stories!
