Release Blitz + Review: "Doctor Scandalous" by J. Saman

Today, I'm happy to join the release blitz celebrating "Doctor Scandalous" by J. Saman, book #1 of the Boston's Billionaire Bachelors series.

Oliver Fritz and Amelia Atkins attended the same elite prep school as teenagers but moved in completely different social circles. Oliver, the scion of a wealthy family, was the most popular boy in their class, while Amelia was an outcast there on scholarship. When they encounter each other on the way into their 10-year high school reunion, Oliver is shocked to witness the disdainful way Amelia is treated by one of their former classmates. Believing that it will benefit them both, he spontaneously comes up with the idea for them to fake an engagement. He hopes that his cheating high school sweetheart, Nora, will finally accept that he's moved on from her, while Amelia's former bullies will be forced to treat her with respect because of her association with him. They only plan to pretend for one night, but when news of their "engagement" goes viral on social media, Oliver must convince Amelia to keep up the ruse for a few more months. Oliver's mother is thrilled at the prospect of planning her son's wedding, and he'll do anything he can to keep her happy while she undergoes treatment for breast cancer.

There was a ton of chemistry between Amelia and Oliver, as well as an obvious emotional connection that grew quickly. They had both been badly hurt in their previous romantic relationships, though they chose to deal with the trauma in opposite ways. Oliver became a playboy while Amelia didn't date at all, instead focusing on her career and raising her little sister, Layla, in the wake of their parents' deaths. I really admired Amelia for the way she stepped up to care for Layla and still managed to finish college, especially with basically no support system. That said, her stubborn refusal to accept any kind of help for either her or her sister bordered on the ridiculous by the end of the book. I understood her reasoning at first, but after a while it started to seem like she was too focused on what everyone else would think. As long as Oliver knew that she wasn't a gold digger, why did anyone else's opinion matter?

Amelia's sister Layla was a tremendously entertaining secondary character. I loved her snarky teenage attitude and the sweet friendship she developed with Oliver, who called her his little Sprite. I also loved the way Oliver's mother and siblings welcomed Amelia and Layla into the fold. For so many years, they only had each other, so it was lovely to see them be accepted and loved by such a wonderful family. Oliver's father wasn't quite as welcoming as the rest of the Fritz family, but I guess I can understand his suspicions.

Overall, I really did like "Doctor Scandalous," but I rated it 4 stars because Amelia's reluctance to accept help annoyed me at times and because a few of the steamy scenes went beyond my comfort level. (Obviously, that is completely subjective, and I know there are plenty of readers who will absolutely love that aspect of the story.) I recommend this book for all fans of steamy contemporary romance and plan to continue with the series.

About "Doctor Scandalous"

I've been dreading this for a year.
Okay, that's a lie. I've been dreading this reunion since we graduated high school ten years ago.
So why am I here, standing outside the door like the eternal wallflower I am?
I'd say it's because my younger sister browbeat me into it, but the truth is, I'm tired of being a nobody. Of never taking a risk with myself and my life.
And...well...maybe I'm also hoping to see him.
The tall, insanely gorgeous man walking my way now. Oliver Fritz is regarded as one Boston's sexiest doctors. I know him as the former god of our school. The one every girl wanted, and every guy wanted to be.
The one as loathsome to be here as I am.
That's when he makes the proposal I've always dreamed of. Only, this one is fake. On bended knee, he places a ring on my finger and proposes we brave this reunion together, with me as his fake fiancée. But when our wild and steamy night ends in scandal, we're forced to make a deal.
He gives me what I need, and in return I stay his fake fiancée, so he doesn't lose face with the media who love him or his sick mother. Should be easy, right? Just a few months pretending to be engaged to one of Boston's most notorious billionaire bachelors. What could go wrong?
Turns out everything.

From USA Today bestselling author J. Saman comes a brand new Kindle-melting romance about one of Boston's most notorious billionaire bachelors and the woman who flips his entire world upside down.
