Love Off-Limits by Jenny Proctor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
After they met at their mutual friends' wedding, Olivia Hawthorne and Tyler Marino spent a magical night together, stargazing, talking, and kissing. Unfortunately, with Tyler based in Charleston and Olivia in the mountains outside Asheville, North Carolina, their relationship seemed to be doomed from the start. Olivia couldn't afford the distraction of a long-distance relationship if she hoped to take over management of her family's farm/events center, Stonebrook. Her family was struggling in the wake of her father's recent stroke, and her oldest brother Perry, a consultant, had been put in charge of the business while he recovered - a job that Olivia always thought would be hers one day. Meanwhile, Tyler had worked as a camera operator for his best friend Isaac, a YouTube star, since he was 16, and while he secretly thought he might like to do something else with his life, he had no idea what that might be. In need of a change and unable to stop thinking about Olivia, Tyler abruptly quit his job with Isaac and headed to Stonebrook, hoping that there would be a job for him there. It wasn't exactly the one he was expecting, however: Olivia offered him a place as a summer farm hand. Tyler accepted in order to buy himself some time to consider his future and get to know Olivia better, though she remained determined to keep him at arms' length. Could Tyler convince Olivia that she could manage a relationship and her family's expectations at the same time?
There was a vulnerability about Tyler that I'm not used to seeing in male protagonists. I found it refreshing that he was so open with Olivia about his feelings instead of keeping everything bottled up inside. I wasn't as happy that Olivia kept pushing him away when he made his feelings for her clear, though I understood her reasons for doing so. It's never easy to balance the competing demands of life and career, and when you add working for a family business into the mix, it's even more complicated. I loved them as a couple, however, and their banter was a ton of fun.
Overall, I really enjoyed "Love Off-Limits" and recommend it for all fans of sweet/clean contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I will definitely be picking up more of this author's books in the future. (Hopefully that will eventually include stories for all four of Olivia's brothers!)
