I am pleased to participate in today's release blitz celebrating "Perfect for You" by Lea Coll, book #3 of the Annapolis Harbor series. While a few characters from previous stories make appearances in this one, it reads as a complete standalone.
"Perfect for You" is a character-driven, slow burn romance between professional football player Reid Everson and attorney Dylan Gannon. Both Reid and Dylan were incredibly likeable, sympathetic characters, and it was easy for me to root for them individually and as a couple. Dylan was both charismatic and compassionate, dedicated to her family and helping others through her volunteer work as marketing director for her friend Hadley's nonprofit organization, Kids Speak. For various reasons, Reid was more of an introvert than Dylan, but he was equally passionate about taking care of his family. He was determined to step up as a team leader both on and off the field to prove to his bosses that he deserved a long-term contract, even if it meant going outside his comfort zone and taking on work with charities like Kids Speak.
I liked Dylan and Reid as a couple very much and thought that their romance was a perfect blend of sweet and steamy, but the story's pacing was a bit of an issue for me. The first 20% of the book moved slowly IMO, and parts of it seemed repetitious as Dylan and her partners, Hadley and Avery, had multiple meetings and tried to come to a decision on whether to accept Reid's team's offer to expand Kids Speak into Baltimore. The story picked up after that as Dylan and Reid were finally able to spend more time together, but their relationship developed very quickly. They were "in love" after about three dates (around the midpoint of the book), even though they continued to keep a lot of secrets from each other. It all felt very rushed to me. They opened up to each other in the second half of the book, and I did believe in the strength of their feelings by the end, but I think I would have appreciated the declaration more if it came later in the story, when they knew each other better.
Aside from the pacing, I really enjoyed "Perfect for You," and I'd recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance. I'm looking forward to picking up the next book in the series.

About "Perfect for You"

REID
Football. It's who I am; it's what I do.
But one blind date changes everything. I was prepared for a crazed fan--a cleat chaser. But Dylan Gannon is far from that. She's a gorgeous, charismatic woman who always gets what she wants. This time, she wants me.
Thankfully, the date, a publicity stunt, is just for show. Dylan Gannon is the exact opposite of what I want. This woman craves attention, drawing people to her like a moth to a flame. And I have no intention of getting burned.
After all, I have a secret that I'll never reveal--not even to an irresistible woman like her.
DYLAN
Reid Everson is the perfect spokesman for my charity.
I'll do anything to persuade the sexy football star. I will stroke his ego, flirt a little, and promise him good publicity. But, he's nothing like the other men I've known. Reid wants nothing to do with me. With his quiet and brooding focus on sports, he's a challenge I plan to win.
It's time for me to open up--and show him the real me. Despite our differences, he'll see I'm perfect for him.
