I'm pleased to join the release blitz celebrating "Rule Breaker" by Stacey Lynn, book #3 of the Las Vegas Vipers series. Characters from previous books of the series make appearances in this one, but it reads as a standalone.
When professional hockey player Dominick Masters is sentenced to community service for getting into a bar fight,
his team decides that he should complete the hours by "volunteering" to coach one of the teams in their youth hockey league. At first, dealing with a bunch of 9- and 10-year-olds seems like Dom's worst nightmare, but surprisingly, it turns out that he doesn't completely hate it, and he even finds himself taking a particular interest in a young player named Ben. He claims that it's because Ben's dad is such a jerk, but it certainly doesn't hurt that Ben's mom, Holly, is so attractive - or that she's single. The problem is that Dom doesn't do relationships, and Holly is a forever kind of woman. As Dom and Holly get to know each other and he slowly begins to let down the walls that he's kept in place for so many years, Dom might just find the family that he didn't know he was looking for all along.
This story managed to break my heart and put it back together in the span of just a few short hours, and I absolutely loved it. Beneath his grumpy exterior, Dominick was incredibly loving, sweet, and protective. He tried so hard to do right by his sister, which would have been enough of a challenge even without their awful mother trying to sabotage his efforts at every turn. As for Holly, she'd gotten out of a bad marriage only to be stuck with her cheating ex living right next door and treating their son like dirt most of the time. Holly and Ben both deserved so much better, and thankfully they found it with Dom.
I highly recommend "Rule Breaker" for all contemporary/sports romance fans. This series really does seem to be getting better with each book, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. *Review copy provided by the author via Valentine PR. All opinions expressed are my own.
About "Rule Breaker"
Spending the night in jail isn’t exactly how I planned to spend Christmas, but I’ve had worse holidays…
Now that I’m out, it’s time to accept my real punishment. Coaching ten-year-old terrors on the ice, in my non-existent free time. My Coach thinks it’d be good for me. Remind me where I came from. He should know I’ve tried every day of my life for the last ten years to forget.
The youth hockey league is a hell I didn’t plan on and the worst penalty possible…
Until the day a sweet, single mom cracks a joke about her kid, and then all bets are off.
I’m the best defenseman in professional hockey, but I didn’t see her coming… now what in the hell do I do? I’m not equipped for a relationship. I’m definitely not ready to have a kid depending on me, but I can’t deny she makes me feel things— want things I never imagined I could have.
I should save us both the trouble and stay far away from her. But rules were made to be broken, and I was never good at following them anyway.
