"Perfect Embrace" was a sweet, heartwarming story featuring incredibly likeable protagonists in bookstore owner Laken Abbott and firefighter/widowed single dad Grayson Davis. After losing his high school sweetheart, Holly, in an accident when their twin daughters, Harlow and Hayden, were barely a year old, Grayson focused on raising his girls with the help of his parents and in-laws. He never expected to have another chance at love, but when he ran into former classmate Laken while out with his daughters and mother-in-law, he couldn't help being drawn to her. Part of him would always be in love with his late wife, but he knew that there was something special about Laken and the way she connected with him and his daughters.
Grayson was a great dad, if a bit overprotective, though that was understandable given the tragic way in which he lost his wife. I loved that he worked so hard to set a good example for his daughters and was such a gentleman with Laken, always opening doors for her and extending other courtesies. As for Laken, I appreciated that she was so understanding of Grayson's situation, never pushing him to move faster in their relationship and making it clear that she had no desire to replace his late wife. Laken's relationship with Grayson's adorable little girls, Harlow and Hayden, was very sweet as well.
Overall, I enjoyed "Perfect Embrace" and recommend it for fans of sweet contemporary and small town romance. I will definitely be picking up more of this author's books in the future, as well as additional books from the Mason Creek series.
