A Festive Feud by Maren Moore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The Worthington and Pearce families of Strawberry Hollow have been at odds for decades, though the feud escalates each year around the holidays when they try to one-up each other with competing Christmas parties. This year, for the first time ever, their parents have entrusted Emma Worthington and Jackson Pearce with party planning responsibilities. They're both feeling the pressure when they run into each other at a local gift shop and get into an argument over a special collector's edition nutcracker, which each plans to use as a party decoration. $10,000 worth of accidental damage later, the sheriff locks them both in jail for the night - in the same tiny cell. Tired of the constant fighting between their families, the local mayor decides to punish Emma and Jackson by revoking the permits for their individual parties and forcing them to plan a joint party for the entire town. It's a disaster in the making unless they can figure out a way to put aside their differences and work together. If they're successful, the reward might be more than a fun holiday celebration; they may just end their family feud once and for all by falling in love.
The tension between Jackson and Emma was utterly delicious and pitch perfect from the start. I immediately felt their unwilling attraction towards each other and knew that it was just a matter of time before those feelings boiled over. When they did, the spicy scenes were absolute FIRE. That said, what I most loved was how cute they were together once they started to see each other in a different light. They stood up for each other and their relationship even though they knew that their families might object and helped bring about a long-overdue reconciliation.
Overall, I very much enjoyed this funny, sweet, and perfectly steamy story and highly recommend it for all contemporary romance and rom-com fans. Strawberry Hollow is a fun little town, and I hope the author will consider setting more stories there in the future.
