Today, I am very happy to participate in the blog tour celebrating the release of "Subscriber Wars" by Kristy Marie. This book is a follow-up to "I.O.U." as well as a spin-off of the earlier Commander in Briefs series. That said, "Subscriber Wars" reads as a total standalone, which I appreciated since this was the first book I've ever read by Kristy Marie. It's safe to say that it won't be my last because I enjoyed this story so much.
I don't know why, but there's something about prank wars in
enemies-to-lovers romances that just tickles my funny bone. Sure, they can
be juvenile, but considering the ages of the main characters, Valentina (aka "Vee) and Sebastian, in "Subscriber Wars,"
that didn't really bother me here. After all, didn't we all do some crazy things
in college? At any rate, Vee and Sebastian's antics were a lot of fun and had me laughing out loud more than once. In addition, their chemistry was FIRE from the very beginning; I had the feeling that they were on the verge of either kissing or killing each other at any moment, and I was rooting for them to kiss.
I really liked the story's structure, with parts of Sebastian and Vee's history revealed in flashbacks through snippets of "interviews" at the beginning of each chapter. It kept me glued to my Kindle because I was so curious about their early relationship as well as Vee's final prank, which won the war but drove a wedge between them at the same time. The author also did a very good job of demonstrating that there was much more to both Vee and Sebastian than was immediately apparent. Each was looking for a way to fit in because they felt like outsiders in their own families, and their social media successes helped them to find their niche.
Overall, I very much enjoyed "Subscriber Wars" and recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance, romantic comedy, and new adult romance. I look forward to checking out more of Kristy Marie's work in the future.

About "Subscriber Wars"
I can explain.
Kind of.
I realize the wig and makeup don’t help my case, but that’s not the point.
The point is, Sebastian came at me first.
He’s the one who started this war, but I’m the one who finished it.
I’m not even sorry about it.
Fine. Maybe I am. A little.
That’s the only explanation as to why I just agreed to play his fake girlfriend so he—we—can win a million dollars in the hottest reality show contest ever filmed on campus.
Don’t get it wrong though, Sebastian and I may look like we love each other, but everyone knows reality TV is nothing but scripted lies and staged kisses.
