Release Blitz + Review: "Seductive Swimmer" by Julia Jarrett

Congratulations to author Julia Jarrett on today's release of "Seductive Swimmer," a standalone Cocky Hero Club novel inspired by "Mister Moneybags."

Accounting consultant Savannah Reese and restaurant group COO Alex Devlin, a 2-time silver medalist for Great Britain's Olympic team, have been swimming at the same community pool early each morning ever since Alex moved into his new apartment. They haven't spoken, but they've certainly noticed each other. That changes one day when Alex finally decides to make his move on Savannah, who rejects his advances and even stops using the pool for a few days. When she returns, he tries again, but she runs away from him. Later that day, they see each other again at Alex's office, where his business partner has just hired Savannah to consult on a project in advance of the opening of their new restaurant. Now that they'll be working together, Savannah is more determined than ever to keep her distance from Alex, but he's equally determined to pursue her. He can't stop thinking about her and the attraction only grows stronger the more time they spend together.

I've read books by this author before and really enjoyed them, but unfortunately I had a tough time with this one from the start. I didn't particularly like either of the main characters, nor did I think they made a very good couple. Savannah seemed too much like a scared little mouse for most of the story, and Alex was too aggressive in his pursuit of her even after she made it clear that she wanted to keep things professional between them. One of the few things about Savannah I did like - that she was clear on the fact she wanted a relationship and not a casual fling - went out the window about halfway through the book when she started wearing sexy new lingerie, which was apparently all it took for her to become confident and flirty and decide that casual sex with Alex was just fine. Did she buy a new personality to go along with the lingerie?

Savannah's panic over not having enough money to adopt the dog near the end of the story didn't make much sense to me, either. All along, her stated goal had been to save enough for the adoption fees plus the first year's worth of expenses (e.g. food). If all she was waiting for was the final payment from Alex and his business partner to reach her goal, shouldn't she already have had at least enough for the adoption fees saved up? It seems like that last little bit (which was only $200!) should have gone towards the first year's expenses, not the fees themselves. (If that wasn't the case, how ridiculously expensive were those fees?) Bottom line, it wasn't nearly as big of a deal as she was making it out to be, and it really irritated me that a woman as smart as Savannah supposedly was couldn't figure out a solution. Even if she didn't want to borrow the money from Alex, both her parents and friend Bianca had offered to lend her the money, or she could have used a credit card and paid it off as soon as she got paid. (It probably wouldn't even have cost her interest since it would have been for such a short period of time!)

Overall, while this book wasn't for me, it may appeal to readers who enjoy the workplace romance trope. Having enjoyed other books by this author in the past, I look forward to checking out her next release.

About "Seductive Swimmer"

Alex
Detached. Driven. Focused.
Those are the qualities that helped me win multiple Olympic medals, and when fate ended my swimming career early, those same qualities led me to run a thriving Manhattan restaurant business.
But all of my success did nothing to prepare me for Savannah Reese.
She’s beautiful, but also clumsy, awkward, and determined to make me question everything I ever believed to be true about myself. I thought I had all I wanted in life, until she shows me what I have been missing.
But she refuses to fall for my charm, especially once she’s hired by my business partner as a consultant.
Every word, every glance, every stolen touch, they only make me want her more. And for the first time ever, I want more than just one night with a woman.

Savannah
I came to New York for a fresh start and to prove that I could make it on my own. So far, so good. I’ve got a place to live, a job, friends, and cheap wine and Cheetos to keep me company at night.
I thought I was happy. Okay, I thought I was content.
Until Alexander Devlin comes along with all of his suave British charm. He’s the kind of man your mama warned you about. Arrogant, sexy, and dangerous to a woman’s heart. He’s also my boss. Which should make him off limits… Except he doesn’t seem to think so…
This sexy swimmer is out to seduce me, and I can only resist him for so long.

Seductive Swimmer is a steamy workplace/sports romance inspired by Mister Moneybags.
