When
her boss calls her in for a meeting a few weeks before Christmas, motivational speaker Sloane Morozov expects to be told that she's finally getting a promotion. Instead, she finds out that the company has been sold and she no longer has a job. Still in a state of shock after returning home later that day,
she's looking through old pictures when she comes across one of her and
her late mother at the Lake Tahoe resort where they used to vacation
together. She impulsively decides to book a trip and spend the next few weeks enjoying the snow while she searches for a new job.
The lakeside cabin next door to Sloane's temporary home is occupied by Cole Mansfield, who recently purchased the resort with his best friend and business partner, Brent. He and Sloane don't exactly hit it off at first, but Sloane decides to put her conflict resolution skills to the test and win over her grumpy neighbor. Sharing a few of her tasty homemade muffins begins to thaw the ice between them, and it's not long before Sloane and Cole are spending every day - and night - together. Will their holiday fling turn into long-term love?
For the most part, I enjoyed this cute grumpy-sunshine romance. Cole and Sloane were both quite likeable, had great chemistry, and were well matched as a couple. That said, I felt like Cole got over his grumpiness and turned into Mr. Charming too quickly. Also, while I expect a certain level of cheesiness from these Hallmark-type stories, the level of cheese here was a bit too much for me. In addition, I figured out the "twist" almost from the beginning, which made the whole book feel kind of predictable.

I've read a lot of holiday romances this year (as I do every year), so the problem may be more me than the book. I can't say that "Cole & Mistletoe" is going to land on my keeper shelf, but fans of "he falls first" stories may well enjoy this one.
