Release Blitz + Review: "P.S. You're Intolerable" by Julia Wolf

I'm pleased to participate in the release blitz celebrating "P.S. You're Intolerable" by Julia Wolf, book #3 of The Harder They Fall series. Characters from the previous books make cameo appearances in this one, but it reads as a standalone.

Catherine "Kit" Warner's entire life changes in the blink of an eye when she learns that she's pregnant following a one-time hookup with a travel buddy. Unable to return to her former job building houses for a charity organization abroad, she instead lands a position as executive assistant to billionaire Elliot Levy, CEO of Levy Development. Seemingly oblivious to anything not directly related to his work, Kit's pregnancy somehow escapes Elliot's notice for months. He does notice what a great assistant she is, however, so when he learns that Kit and her newborn daughter Joey are in need of a place to stay, he offers up his own house. After all, the sooner Kit's personal life is settled, the sooner she can get back to work. Spending so much time with Elliot outside of the office - and seeing the sweet way he interacts with Joey - helps Kit see a different side of her boss, and it's not long before she realizes that her feelings for him are more than just professional. Is there any hope for them to be together, or will office politics get in the way?

This was the first book I've read by Julia Wolf, but it definitely won't be the last. Elliot was such a delightful surprise as a protagonist! Every time I thought he was about to show his true colors and act like a jerk or tyrant (in other words, like a typical billionaire), he surprised me by doing something incredibly kind and thoughtful instead. I particularly enjoyed his attempts to justify the nice things he did for Kit by claiming that he had selfish motives, such as creating a pumping room on the executive floor because it would allow her to get back to work sooner. He may have been ruthless in his business dealings, but Elliot was a big ol' softy when it came to Kit and Joey, and I loved it.

The one thing that could have improved this story for me was a bit more resolution with Kit's parents in the end. There was a brief mention in the epilogue, but not enough to satisfy the questions I still had. For example, if her parents really didn't care about her, why did they supposedly look for her for so many years?

I highly recommend this funny, sweet, and steamy story for all contemporary romance fans and look forward to checking out more of the author's work in the future.

About "P.S. You're Intolerable"

My boss, Elliot Levy is intolerable, and I tell him so everyday…in the little notes I write and then hide in the back of my desk.

I can’t exactly say to his face that I’m convinced he’s a cyborg, considering I'm about to become a single mother and I really need to keep my job as his assistant.

Elliot never looks at me, so he doesn’t even notice I’m pregnant until I’m seven months along. The first thing he asks is if I’m planning to come back to work once I have the baby.

Not unexpected.

What is unexpected is Elliot coming to my rescue when I need a place to stay after my daughter is born. While living with him, I get to see a whole other side of him…especially when he walks around his house without a shirt on.

Which he does, ALL. THE. TIME.

I shouldn’t look, but I can’t help it. He’s gorgeous in a suit, but out of one? Devastating.

Elliot shows me he isn’t the heartless robot I once thought. It’s still terrifying to take a chance on him, even when he holds my baby like she’s precious to him, and he touches me like he’s been longing to for ages.

Now that he has me, he isn’t letting me go without a fight.

And Elliot Levy didn’t get where he is in business without learning a few underhanded tricks. What will he do to keep me? To keep us?

P.S. I think I’m falling for you.

Review: "Dare to Marry You" by Julia Jarrett

Dare to Marry You

Dare to Marry You by Julia Jarrett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Dare to Marry You" by Julia Jarrett, book #5 of the Donnellys of Dogwood Cove series, is a follow up to the first book of the series, featuring Kat and Hunter's Christmas Eve wedding at the Martin farm.

Kat couldn't be more excited as their big day approaches, while Hunter's anxiety continues to increase at the thought of being the center of attention. Further complicating matters is an unexpected training opportunity that sends Hunter out of town for most of the two weeks leading up to the wedding. Kat's left on her own with the last-minute details - and the surprising discovery that she's pregnant. When a massive snowstorm rolls in and strands Hunter on the mainland a few days before the wedding, will it force them to cancel all of their carefully laid plans?

Kat and Hunter are one of my favorite Julia Jarrett couples and I loved revisiting their story in this novella. Having struggled with anxiety myself, I've always found Hunter to be a particularly relatable protagonist. I appreciated that Kat was so patient and understanding with Hunter, and when she recognized that the wedding was a trigger for him, she adjusted the plans so that he could enjoy the day too. I also loved the way Hunter looked out for Kat, such as when he made sure that her brothers were available to help her shovel snow when he couldn't make it home during the storm. They were always taking care of each other in both big and small ways, and it made their relationship feel like a partnership in the truest sense of the word.

Overall, I adored "Dare to Marry You" and highly recommend it for all contemporary romance readers. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Review: "Over the Line" by Elise Faber

Over the Line

Over the Line by Elise Faber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In need of an escape after losing both her job and her boyfriend in the same day, photographer Nova Cassidy gratefully accepts her best friend's offer to spend a week at her brother's house in Lake Tahoe. Unfortunately, there's more bad luck waiting for Nova on the road; her car slides into a snowbank and she's unable to dig it out, leaving her stranded. She's reluctantly rescued by professional hockey player Lake Jordan as he's driving past on his way home from practice. When she informs him of her destination, they're both surprised to learn that Nova's friend gave her Lake's address instead of her brother's.

After a grueling stretch of away games, all Lake wants is to be left alone to rest and recover, but with the snow continuing to fall, he has no choice but to let Nova stay with him. Making her feel welcome isn't part of the deal, however. A rocky start to her stay gradually gives way to the growing attraction between them, but their respective pasts make the prospect of a relationship difficult. When the storm ends, will Nova and Lake be able to overcome their past hurts and build a new future together?

Lake came across as quite a jerk in the early chapters, but as I got further into the story, I came to understand that his behavior was actually an effort to push Nova away and protect himself from getting hurt. Similarly, Nova had to fight her instinct to run when things got too serious. They both had demons to battle, and I appreciated that they each made a conscious choice and put in the effort to be together in the end. I also enjoyed the story's lighter moments, particularly the ones involving Nova's "demon dog," Steve the pug.

I really like the direction Faber seems to be taking with this new hockey series. For a number of reasons, this story didn't feel like a "typical" hockey romance to me, which was refreshing. The Sierra are a dysfunctional team, many of the players don't get along, and some of them have a questionable work ethic. As captain, Lake had to try and figure out how to change the team's culture to give them a chance at winning the Cup. It will be interesting to see how this dynamic plays out through the next few books of the series.

I highly recommend "Over the Line" for all contemporary/sports romance fans and look forward to the next book in the series.

Release Blitz + Review: "Something Like Lust" by Piper Rayne

I'm delighted to take part in the release blitz celebrating "Something Like Lust" by Piper Rayne, book #2 of the Chicago Grizzlies series. While it does work as a standalone, the main characters' first meeting actually takes place in a free prequel to the series. I'd recommend reading that first for context.

Piper Rayne's sports romances have all been pretty great, but I think this one is my new favorite of theirs. The authors did a fantastic job of redeeming bad boy football star Damon Siska. Learning that he was about to become a father brought out a completely different side of Damon's personality, and I loved the way he stepped up and became a true partner to middle school teacher Adeline Morgan. Their banter and chemistry was phenomenal, but what I most appreciated was their awareness of the challenges they faced and efforts to talk through how to handle them. The one topic that seemed to be off limits was Damon's fear of relationships, but when I learned the reason behind it, my heart broke for him. Adeline and the baby were exactly what Damon needed to move on from his past into a brighter future.

I highly recommend "Something Like Lust" for all contemporary/sports romance and romantic comedy fans and look forward to the next book in the series.

About "Something Like Lust"

Do it.
Don’t do it.

Never in my life did I think I’d wager in my head whether to sleep with Chicago Grizzlies wide receiver, Damon Siska.

He’s the perfect package—hot body, killer smile, and flirts like he earned a doctorate in it. But anyone who reads gossip blogs knows he is looking for one amazing night and nothing more.

I’m not the usual type of woman he beds. I’m a middle school teacher who cherishes her quiet nights in, drinking wine, and watching romantic comedies, dreaming I’m the heroine. I’m not embarrassed to admit—I want the fairy tale.

But Damon caught me at a weak moment. Fresh off a break-up and feeling lousy about myself, I gave into temptation and left the next morning like every other woman he’d slept with.

Except I walked away with more than just the memories when three weeks later the little white stick glowed with two pink lines.

Review: "On the Defense" by Piper Rayne

On the Defense On the Defense by Piper Rayne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"On the Defense" by Piper Rayne is a prequel novella to the Chicago Grizzlies series. Professional football player Miles Cavanaugh, recently traded to Chicago from the San Francisco Kingsmen, moves into an apartment in the same building as two of his new teammates. A new season is about to begin and it's a fresh start for all of them, not just in football, but maybe in love, too.

I'd recommend this novella for all readers who plan to pick up the other books in the series. It helps bridge the gap between the Kingsmen Football Stars series, which concluded with Miles's sister Twyla's story, and the beginning of the Chicago Grizzlies series. It also provides helpful context for later events in the Grizzlies series, especially those of book 2, "Something Like Lust."

Review: "All Snowed Gin" by Claire Hastings

All Snowed Gin

All Snowed Gin by Claire Hastings
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"All Snowed In" by Claire Hastings is part of the multi-author Mistletoe Creek series and also ties into the Hickory Hills series, but works well as a standalone.

Heading home from a month-long business trip to celebrate Christmas with her family, Rose Adler takes a brief detour through the mountains and ends up stuck in the snow with no cell service. She walks to a nearby house to ask for help only for the owner, Pierce Adams, to slam the door in her face. Undaunted, Rose knocks again, and Pierce's conscience won't let him turn her away a second time. She manages to call the local towing company from his landline, but the news isn't good; a bridge has collapsed under the weight of the snow, and it will be days until anyone can get to her. The last thing either Rose or Pierce wants is to be stuck with a stranger for Christmas, but can they find a way to make the best of the situation?

I very much enjoyed this sweet yet steamy story, which featured likeable, relatable protagonists and a fun holiday vibe. Pierce certainly came across as a grump at first, but when I learned the reasons behind his behavior, my heart broke for him. He seemed like a completely different person after he started to let down his guard and allow himself to have fun with Rose. Their personalities complemented each other perfectly and I loved how cute they were together by the end. I hope we'll see more of them in future books of the Hickory Hills series.

I highly recommend "All Snowed Gin" for all steamy contemporary romance fans and look forward to whatever the author writes next.

Review: "Where It Begins" by Helena Hunting

Where It Begins

Where It Begins by Helena Hunting
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Where It Begins" by Helena Hunting is a standalone prequel to the Pucked series featuring Violet's mother, accountant Skye Hall, and Miller's father, pro hockey scout Sidney Butterson. It's releasing as part of the 1,001 Dark Nights collection, which is a great way to sample standalone novellas by new-to-you authors (or enjoy a special bonus story from an existing favorite).

I adored this laugh-out-loud funny, sweet, and perfectly steamy story, which made me want to go back and read the entire Pucked series all over again. Skye and Sidney were endearing protagonists whose struggle to fit their relationship around their teenagers' schedules was incredibly relatable. I particularly enjoyed getting to know the younger versions of Violet and Miller. Quite a few of Violet's best (and funniest) personality traits were obviously inherited directly from her mother, and their close relationship was a lot of fun.

I highly recommend this novella for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans and look forward to whatever the author comes up with next.

Review: "Crossing the Brooklyn Briggs" by Dana LeCheminant

Crossing the Brooklyn Briggs

Crossing the Brooklyn Briggs by Dana LeCheminant
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

High school chemistry teacher Brooklyn Briggs is home sick one day when she's startled into a nasty fall by a man working outside her window. It turns out to be her twin brother Houston's best friend, Jordan Torres, who recently moved back to their hometown of Sun City and started his own landscaping business. Back in high school, Jordan drove Brooklyn crazy with his teasing and pranks, so she's not exactly thrilled to see him again. Unfortunately, her injuries from the fall are no prank, and she's going to need help getting around until she recovers. Houston's out of town, so Jordan reluctantly agrees to take care of Brooklyn.

Considering their history, Houston's warning that his sister is off-limits should be unnecessary, but there's something about Brooklyn that has always attracted Jordan. The problem is that she has a crush on her co-worker Mark. When Jordan accidentally finds out about her crush, he impulsively offers to give her flirting lessons to help win Mark over. It's not long before their pretend flirting starts to feel like the real thing, but both Brooklyn and Jordan are afraid of risking their relationship with Houston. Can they find a way to move forward together?

I adored this funny, sweet, and heartwarming story. Brooklyn and Jordan both had a lot of baggage from their past relationships, but I appreciated that they were able to see beyond each other's flaws and imperfections to what was really important. Their personalities were a perfect balance and I loved how they supported and built each other up when needed. They truly made a wonderful couple and I was rooting for them the whole way.

I highly recommend "Crossing the Brooklyn Briggs" for all sweet/closed-door contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series, which will feature Brooklyn's brother Houston.

Review: "Levi Bailey Has Butterflies" by Jen Atkinson

Levi Bailey has Butterflies

Levi Bailey Has Butterflies by Jen Atkinson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It's official: Jen Atkinson has written not one, not two, but THREE of my favorite books of 2023. I can't recommend "Levi Bailey Has Butterflies" highly enough for anyone who enjoys grumpy-sunshine/opposites attract stories (or sweet/closed-door contemporary romance and romantic comedy of any kind).

My favorite part about this story was the way Meredith helped Levi see things differently and start to make positive changes in his life. He'd lived in fear of something bad happening to his mom or siblings for so long that he didn't know how to let go. Meredith's experiences had taught her the necessity of pushing through fear to find the joy in life, and spending time with her helped Levi change his way of thinking too. He was still a loving and protective son and brother, but he found a way to balance those instincts with living life for himself.

The book's secondary characters were also a ton of fun and added a great deal of depth and humor to the story. I particularly loved Meredith's Uncle Bob and the way he encouraged her to go out and live her life, even though he was apparently a hermit himself. It seemed as if he truly lived through the books he wrote. I enjoyed catching up with Levi's sister Coco and her daughter Alice, too. Alice was just as cute and funny as ever, and I hope to see more of her in future stories.

I can't wait to find out what's in store for us with the rest of the Bailey brothers!

Review: "The Matchmaking Heirs" by Whitley Cox and Ember Leigh

The Matchmaking Heirs: First Christmas in Winter Harbor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"The Matchmaking Heirs" by Whitley Cox and Ember Leigh is a charming holiday novella featuring the Winters brothers (Callum, Carson, and Colton) and the women they love as they celebrate Christmas in Winter Harbor. For maximum enjoyment, I'd recommend reading the couples' individual stories prior to this one.

Now that the renovations to their ancestral estate are finally complete, the Winters clan is looking forward to spending their first Christmas together as a family. They've just brought home the perfect Christmas tree when Amaya's Aunt Maribel stops by to ask them to help her play matchmaker for a couple of the town's senior citizens, Bernard Gentry and Drusilla Crombie. They decide to throw a small Christmas Eve party to bring the two together, but the guest list quickly spirals out of control as word of the party spreads.

Meanwhile, Lily, Colton, and Harlow are busy dealing with the fallout of a defamatory newspaper article about the Summers and Winters families that threatens Lily's new position as mayor of Winter Harbor. After everything they've done to repair their families' reputations and prove their commitment to the local community, they're not about to let these unfair accusations stand. Can they figure out who's really behind the article and put a stop to the attacks once and for all?

I completely adored this funny, sweet, and perfectly steamy story. Reading it felt like coming home and spending time with old friends. It was wonderful to see each of the couples so happy together after everything they'd been through, and I also loved the teasing interactions between the brothers. Their relationship has improved so much since the series began!

I highly recommend "The Matchmaking Heirs" for all steamy contemporary romance fans. Hopefully the authors will collaborate again in the future - maybe on stories for Lily's sisters? ;-)

Review: "A Fish Out of Water" by Savannah Scott

A Fish Out of Water
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Recent college graduate Ben Hayes is about to start his first real job as a water sports instructor at the Alicante Resort on California's Marbella Island. He's barely stepped off the ferry from the mainland when he meets aspiring actress Summer Monroe, who's currently working part-time in Guest Services at the Alicante while performing in a play at the island's community theater. Flirty Ben is used to women falling at his feet, so Summer's initial lack of interest in dating him presents a real challenge. Summer knows a charmer when she sees one, and experience has taught her to avoid them at all costs. But no matter how often she gives him the cold shoulder, Ben just can't seem to stay away. When Summer's co-star is forced to drop out of the play and Ben is unexpectedly offered the role, he can't turn down the opportunity to get closer to her. Will sharing the stage help Summer see a different side of Ben - and maybe, finally, convince her to give him a chance?

I already had a pretty big crush on Ben after finishing the first book of this series, so I was rooting for Summer to give him a chance from page 1. I fell even more in love with his friendly, outgoing personality as the story progressed. Summer's trust issues were completely understandable, but Ben was so sweetly patient with her. He clearly would have done just about anything to make her happy, as evidenced by his epic grand gesture and staunch support of her goal to make it in Hollywood. They made a super cute couple, and it's safe to say that I am #TeamBummer all the way!

Overall, I adored this funny, sweet, and heartwarming story and highly recommend it for all fans of sweet/closed-door contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I look forward to the next book of the series.

Review: "The Cowboy Christmas Distraction" by Tiffany Noelle Chacon

The Cowboy Christmas Distraction: A Sweet NYC Christmas Rom-Com
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Monica Garcia Perez is fired from her job as an analyst with Goldman Sachs shortly before Christmas, her mentor, Helen, promises to write her a glowing letter of recommendation and help her find another job after the holidays - as long as Monica agrees to make some changes. Even though she's a talented analyst, Helen is concerned that Monica's brash attitude and shallow behavior will give potential employers the wrong impression. Thrown into a tailspin of self-doubt, Monica tries to focus on plans for her best friend Mila's upcoming visit to New York City, but a snowstorm causes Mila and her husband Alex's flight to be canceled. However, their friend Matthew Craig, a professional bull rider, is traveling separately and needs a place to stay. Monica volunteers her couch, hoping that the handsome cowboy will provide a much-needed distraction from everything that's gone wrong in her life. Matthew may not be what Monica expected, but if she'll let him, he could turn out to be exactly what she needs to get her life back on track.

While I wouldn't exactly describe this book as a Christian romance, it did contain some Christian themes, and I was impressed by the author's ability to integrate them without overwhelming the rest of the story. Monica's faith journey was just one piece of a needed re-evaluation of her life and priorities in the wake of getting fired. Her growing relationship with Matthew, and eventually his family, was another piece. He was sweet and they made a cute couple, though I didn't feel as if I got to know him very well since the story was narrated only from Monica's POV. What I did know, I liked, however, and he truly seemed to bring out the best in her.

Overall, I enjoyed this charming story and recommend it for all fans of sweet/closed-door contemporary romance. It was the first book I've read by this author but won't be the last.

Blog Tour + Review: "Grumpy Little Christmas" by Marika Ray

I'm happy to take part in the blog tour celebrating the release of "Grumpy Little Christmas" by Marika Ray.

Country music star Morgana Mavis knew things with her actor boyfriend weren't perfect, but even so, she never expected him to dump her through social media shortly before the holidays. In need of a break from the press surrounding their breakup, she decides to head off alone on the 10-day ski trip to Idaho they'd planned to take together. She's sure that the boutique ski lodge located in the tiny town of Snowhaven will be the perfect place for her to hide until the media storm blows over.

The lodge's owner, single dad Aksel Lund, has problems of his own; he's been hiding the resort's dire financial situation from his family for months, and if he can't come up with the funds to pay their most demanding creditors by the end of the year, they'll be forced to sell. He's determined to give his 8-year-old daughter Imogen a Christmas to remember, however, even if that means putting up with a stuck-up celebrity guest. But it turns out that Morgana's not so stuck up after all, and sparks fly between her and Aksel from the moment they meet. Could meeting Morgana be the Christmas miracle Aksel didn't know he needed?

I adored this funny, sweet, and heartwarming story. Morgana's fiery nature was a perfect match for Aksel's natural grumpiness, and I loved the way they gradually lowered their defenses and began to share their burdens and fears with each other. I particularly loved the story's focus on Morgana redefining her career on her own terms, as well as Aksel learning to accept help. The book's supporting characters were also a lot of fun, especially Aksel's adorable daughter Imogen and Morgana's assistant Janna. The secondary romance involving Janna and Aksel's best friend John was super cute; I hope they ended up together too!

I highly recommend "Grumpy Little Christmas" for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans and look forward to the author's next release.

About "Grumpy Little Christmas"

My country music career is going downhill fast, and my very public breakup isn't helping. All I want is to hide away at a cozy ski lodge this Christmas, avoid anything festive, and figure out what to do with my life. Is that so much to ask?

Aksel Lund is a modern-day Viking who should be gracing magazine covers with his smoldery frown, not running the Havenkirk Ski Lodge like a tyrant. Unbeknownst to me, this map-dot town in Idaho doesn’t have a spa or know how to be chill about Christmas. Aksel’s eight-year-old daughter drags me to every single Snowmass celebration because I don’t have the heart to tell her no.

Her grinch of a father though? He has no heart. When he’s not criticizing my music, or saving me from hurtling down the slopes, or arguing with me over my excessive luggage—it’s only five suitcases, calm down—he’s dodging my questions about why he’s a single dad and who keeps calling about his debts.

I may be a celebrity— which basically makes me a scrooge in his eyes—but I know a thing or two about hard times. And it looks like Havenkirk will be sold to some rich developer the minute the tinsel comes down. If only Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Brooding would let me help save the lodge.

And if only Aksel didn’t make my heart twist painfully in my chest and leave me panting whenever he turns that glower on me. If only I truly loved the season and could pull a Christmas miracle out of my guitar.

Turns out a miracle is what I need to get Aksel out of my heart, too.

Release Blitz + Review: "Flame" by Adriana Locke

I'm excited to take part in the release blitz celebrating "Flame" by Adriana Locke, book #5 of the Carmichael Family series. Characters from the previous books in the series (as well as "The Proposal," book #1 of the Brewer Family series) make appearances in this one, but it reads as a standalone.

Six months ago, Foxx Carmichael suddenly requested a transfer from Bianca Brewer's personal security detail. His feelings for her had started to cross the line from professional to personal, and he couldn't let his lack of objectivity affect her safety or his friendship with her older brother, Jason. Now, she's in his hometown of Kismet Beach, FL in search of answers about why he left so abruptly, and maybe even to pick up where they left off. But answers aren't the only thing Bianca needs from Foxx; there's a potential threat to Bianca's safety from her father, who's been on a rampage ever since her mother filed for divorce and replaced him with Bianca as head of the family business. Her brother suggests that Bianca lay low until the threat is neutralized and Foxx impulsively volunteers to let her stay with him. Despite the close proximity, Foxx vows to resist the pull of his attraction to Bianca - until he learns the details of her father's latest scheme and realizes that the best way to protect her is by marrying her.

I've really enjoyed the bits and pieces we've learned about Foxx in the books leading up to this one, but he proved to be an even more complex and endearing character than I could have predicted. It took finding the right woman for him to finally let down his walls, and I loved the way Bianca brought out a softer, more playful side of him. He was still tough and protective when he needed to be, but he just melted for Bianca. Their chemistry was absolute FIRE, but I also loved how easily Bianca fit into Foxx's family. Her relationship with her brothers was a lot of fun, too; I particularly enjoyed her interactions with Jason and can't wait to read his story next.

Overall, I adored this funny, sweet, and heartfelt story and highly recommend it for all steamy contemporary romance fans. I'm really going to miss spending time with the Carmichael family, but hopefully we'll see them again in future stories.

About "Flame"

RSVP to my Marriage of Convenience

I swore I would only get married if my life depended on it. Oh, the irony.

Many things have happened over the last few weeks that I didn’t see coming. My family imploded. Our business was turned upside down. And someone threatened to harm me if I didn’t make good on my father’s promises.

But the biggest thing I didn’t see coming?

Foxx Carmichael demanding marriage.

He’s doing it out of loyalty to my brother. I know that. But I can’t help but think if, through that deliciously hot, grumpy exterior, my bodyguard doesn’t have ulterior motives.

There’s no denying the fire in his touch or the heat in his blue eyes. He protects me with a ferocity that leaves me breathless. He makes me rethink many things I thought I knew for sure—like my position on marriage.

But how we dance around our fake relationship makes me wonder what part of this is pretend. None of it matters if he doesn’t admit he feels the same way.

Our sham wedding will fall apart as soon as the threat is contained. But what happens if the flames between us burn everything to the ground first?

Release Blitz + Excerpt + Review: "Flirting with the Scrooge" by Gia Stevens

I'm thrilled to join the release blitz celebrating "Flirting with the Scrooge" by Gia Stevens, book #5 of the Harbor Highlands series. Characters from the previous books make cameo appearances in this one, but it reads as a standalone.

After his grandmother moves into an assisted living facility, rock star Connor Tyler volunteers to fix up her house and get it ready to sell. He needs a break to consider the next steps in his career, and his hometown of Harbor Highlands, Minnesota seems like the perfect place to hide. He's no sooner arrived than his grandmother's neighbor, Tatum Ellis, shows up on his doorstep with a plate of cookies as a welcome gift. Fearing that she will discover his true identity, Connor isn't exactly friendly when he rejects her offering and slams the door in her face. Thus begins a war cold enough to rival the snowy weather outside until Connor, feeling guilty for the way he's treated Tatum, decides to invite her over to keep warm by the fire during a blizzard-induced power outage. Their fireside frolic gives rise to a growing friendship with a possibility for more, except that Connor is still keeping his rock star status from Tatum. Will she forgive him when she learns his true identity and that he's planning on heading back to Los Angeles as soon as his grandmother's house is sold?

I loved the bickering and banter between Tatum and Connor, whose early "hate flirting" (as described by Tatum's sister Olivia) was often hilarious. I particularly loved the snowman incident and his response! While Connor came across as kind of a jerk at first, my opinion of him improved tremendously by the end of the story. I appreciated that he saw how smart and special Tatum was and didn't hesitate to tell her, and that he encouraged her to be herself instead of trying to twist herself into whatever her parents and ex-boyfriend wanted her to be.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this laugh-out-loud funny, sweet, and perfectly steamy story. I recommend "Flirting with the Scrooge" for all contemporary romance and rom-com fans and look forward to whatever the author writes next.

About "Flirting with the Scrooge"

‘Twas a month before Christmas, and all through the town,
Everyone was ready to celebrate, except my hot and grumpy new neighbor.

Christmas is my favorite time of year with the festive parties and holiday cheer. But having Connor Tyler move in next door is as much fun as searching for a burned-out bulb in a string of lights.

His rugged good looks and guitar can make anyone swoon. That doesn’t change the fact that he slammed the door in my face when I welcomed him with a tray of homemade cookies.

But I won’t let his bah-humbug attitude damper my holiday spirit. This year, more than ever, I need to deck the halls and revel in being jolly. As I ramp up my holiday cheer, Connor spends more and more time casting lingering glances toward my… mistletoe. When a blizzard hits, a gesture of hospitality leads to exchanging more than presents.

As Christmas draws nearer, I chip away at his icy facade only to discover a painful truth. There’s an expiration date on his time next door.

And I’m certain I don’t have enough boxes of tinsel to convince him to stay.

"Flirting with the Scrooge" is a grumpy x sunshine, holiday romantic comedy filled with holiday antics and snow melting interactions. Be prepared to laugh out loud one minute and swoon the next in this steamy standalone rom-com. Each book in the Harbor Highlands series is set in the same world and is a guaranteed happily ever after.

Read an Excerpt from "Flirting with the Scrooge"

“Maybe you could teach me something?”

“Yeah? You want to play the guitar?”

She nods.

“What do you want to learn?”

She purses her lips, the corner of her mouth tips up to the side as she decides on her answer. “‘Love You Anyway’ by Luke Combs. I love that song.”

“Country?”

She bobs her head up and down.

“I don’t do country.”

“Oh.” Her face falls.

“I got a song I can teach you.” I pass her my guitar and she holds it in her lap. Rising to my feet, I move to kneel in front of her. “Wrap your hand around the neck like this.” I move her fingers so they’re over the strings. “And then rest your arms here and let it hang down. Keep it loose.” I move her other arm over the guitar body. “This is the C chord.” I grip her hand softly in mine and a jolt of electricity courses through my body. Her breath hitches and I know she felt it too. Our gazes meet for the briefest of seconds before I glance away. I move her finger to the correct string and then I hand her a pick from my pocket. “Strum this string while pressing down with your other hand.” She does exactly what I say. “Now this is G.” Again, I move her finger to the correct string, and she strums it. “Now try them together.”

Her tongue peeks out as she remembers where to place her fingers and strums the two chords. We continue this way for a few more chords. Sometimes she makes a mistake but starts over.

When I introduce a new chord, she tries to play it all back but messes up. “I can’t do this. My fingers aren’t that coordinated.”

“Here, let me try something. Scoot forward.” She does as I say, and I move to sit behind her. My front is pressed against her back. For a moment her body stiffens, but then she relaxes into me. I lean past her shoulder, her sweet vanilla scent invading my senses. What I wouldn’t do to nuzzle into her neck, savoring her delicious smell, and press my lips to her soft flesh. Quickly, I shake the thought from my head. Reaching around the neck, I set my fingers on the strings. “Put your fingers on mine. Then you can get a feel for the movement.” Her delicate fingers graze mine, barely touching me as if she’s afraid because she’ll feel the same current of electricity as I do.

I play the intro chords and then lead into the first verse. Her fingers brush against mine as I move over the strings. With my mouth next to her ear, I croon the lyrics to “Patience” by Guns N Roses. When I reach the end of the chorus, she releases a small giggle.

She tilts her head to face me. “‘Patience’. How fitting.”

I flash her a small smile but continue playing. Her gaze searches mine, then falls to my lips. Her hands fall to her sides as she inches her face closer to mine. A river of lust and desire flows between us. Her lips part and I stop singing when she sinks her teeth into the corner of her bottom lip. I’m itching to feel her soft bottom lip between my teeth. Then her lips crash to mine.

Review: "Cupid's First Christmas" by Tana Jenkins

Cupid's First ChristmasCupid's First Christmas by Tana Jenkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Family practitioner Dr. Zack Albert recently returned to his childhood home on Michigan's Mackinac Island to take over his father's clinic. He's agreed to work there for the next year in exchange for his father paying off his medical school loans. When the year is up, Zack plans to turn the practice over to his cousin and return to Atlanta, where the painful memories of his mother's death and his tumultuous relationship with his father aren't so overwhelming.

Recent divorcée Linda Christianson is also back on Mackinac Island to spend Christmas with her family while she figures out a new life plan. She's helping out by delivering trees for the family Christmas tree farm when she runs into her younger brother's old friend, Zack. Linda was Zack's first crush but they haven't seen each other since before he went away to boarding school years ago. When she discovers a box of puppies on the front porch of Zack's clinic, Linda convinces him to help her care for them until permanent homes can be found. Can the magic of the season and three playful puppies bring these wounded souls together?

This was such a cute story! I loved Linda's belief in miracles and that she was so determined to help Zack believe too. Her concerns about him being younger than her were understandable, but to me, their age difference was never obvious. I'm not sure if it was having to grow up so quickly when he lost his mother or if it was because he was a doctor, but Zack approached everything with a degree of seriousness and maturity that others his age might have lacked. He and Linda made a perfect couple and I was rooting for them the whole way.

The one thing that might have improved this story for me is if there had been an epilogue. I really wanted to know how Linda's brother reacted to the news of her and Zack dating, as well as if Zack was able to increase the clinic's revenue. Other than that, I very much enjoyed "Cupid's First Christmas" and highly recommend it for all sweet/closed-door contemporary romance fans.

Review: "Christmas in Paradise" by Brittany Larsen

Christmas in Paradise

Christmas in Paradise by Brittany Larsen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

For Hope Lytle, landing a summer internship with the event coordinator in charge of her stepsister Evie's upcoming wedding seems like a dream come true. It's a difficult choice to leave her 3-year-old daughter, Charly, with her parents in Kansas for two months, but she can't pass up the chance to build a better future for both of them. A summer fling with electrician Sebastian Sparks turns out to be the perfect distraction from missing her daughter until Hope realizes that she's developed real feelings for him - and that he doesn't want kids. She ghosts Sebastian and heads back to Kansas early, but he can't stop thinking about her.

Five months later, Evie's Christmas-themed wedding is quickly approaching and Hope's boss is in need of onsite help, but she's not willing to leave her daughter behind again. When Sebastian finds out that she's back in town and looking for childcare, he convinces his mom to care for Charly while Hope works. But that won't be enough for him to win Hope back; she's determined to establish herself as an independent woman and hasn't forgotten Sebastian's feelings about kids. Can he prove that there's a place in his life for both Hope and Charly?

This book was my favorite of the series so far! Sebastian's efforts to learn how to "dad" with the puppy were adorable, and his struggles were so relatable. There's a learning curve for all of us when it comes to parenting (both pet and human). As for Hope, I loved how committed she was to doing what was best for Charly, even if it meant making sacrifices herself. She seemed incredibly mature for her age, and I appreciated that she was always so loving and calm with Charly. I also loved how patient she was with Sebastian as he worked through the lingering baggage of losing his father as a child.

I highly recommend "Christmas in Paradise" for all sweet/closed-door contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Review: "Blame It On The Blizzard" by Samantha Baca

Blame It On The Blizzard
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

When a rapidly approaching blizzard forces her off the road in the small town of Sugarplum Falls, thriller author Brynlee Adams is dismayed to learn that neither of the local hotels has any rooms available. A local man offers her the use of his tiny cabin instead; the only problem is that she'll have to share it with handsome stranger Sebastian, who's also stranded because of the storm. Brynlee's addiction to true crime documentaries and horror movies immediately makes her suspicious of Sebastian, no matter how much he tries to put her at ease. The situation becomes even more awkward when he reveals that he's also an author; in fact, he's Brynlee's favorite romance author, whom she previously thought was a woman. Now that she knows the truth, she can't help wondering about the inspiration for his books' steamy scenes...and imagining herself acting them out, with Sebastian in the starring role.

Both Brynlee and Sebastian were likeable protagonists, and I enjoyed the aspects of the plot related to Brynlee's mysterious past and reconnecting with her family. Unfortunately, I wasn't so much a fan of their romance. I just didn't feel the chemistry between them, possibly because of Brynlee's early fixation on Sebastian as a potential serial killer. She genuinely seemed scared of him, which was understandable given the situation, but doesn't exactly lend itself to a burgeoning romance. Sebastian's behavior was concerning to me as well. In a lot of ways, it felt like he was putting on a show because both of his big emotional confessions happened in front of Brynlee's aunt and cousin. It's like he had written his and Brynlee's story in his head and was trying to force it to become real.

Bottom line, while not everything about this story worked for me, I'd still recommend it for fans of steamy contemporary romance. I look forward to the author's next release.

Release Blitz + Review: "After the Storm" by Laura Pavlov

I'm pleased to take part in the release blitz celebrating "After the Storm" by Laura Pavlov, book #5 of the Cottonwood Cove series. Characters from the previous books make cameo appearances in this one, but it reads as a standalone.

Entertainment lawyer Presley Duncan hasn't been back to the small town of Cottonwood Cove since the challenges of long distance put an end to her relationship with first love Cage Reynolds. Her father recently had a stroke and has chosen to recuperate at the family ranch, which means it's time for her to put the past aside. Besides, the timing couldn't be better for Presley to get away from New York and her estranged husband, a famous music producer whose affair with his assistant (and impending fatherhood) was recently leaked to the press.

Despite the awkwardness of their first few encounters, it doesn't take long for Presley and Cage's old feelings to return to the surface, especially after she meets his adorable 5-year-old daughter, Gracie. But no matter how much they may love each other, their lives are still in two different places; Presley must return to New York, where she's about to be named the first female partner in her law firm's history, while Cage can't uproot his daughter from the only home she's ever known. Can Presley and Cage find a way to make it work this time or are they destined for heartbreak once again?

Presley and Cage's story was a tremendously satisfying conclusion to the Cottonwood Cove series. I loved their sweet yet steamy chemistry, as well as how quickly Presley bonded with Cage's daughter. Gracie was a delightfully funny little girl whose inability to keep a secret made me laugh out loud more than once. I also enjoyed the teasing interactions between the Reynolds siblings, who obviously loved each other fiercely but also knew how to have fun with each other. Hopefully they'll make cameos in future books so we can catch up with them!

I highly recommend "After the Storm" (and the entire series) for all contemporary romance fans and look forward to whatever the author writes next.

About "After the Storm"

He’s a grumpy single dad. She’s the one who got away. They haven’t seen one another in years, and now they’re stuck in a hotel room together. And there’s only one bed.

I’ve loved her from the first moment I saw her.
And I’ve loved her every day since.
Whether we’re together or we’re apart—that hasn’t changed.
Which is saying a lot considering I don’t like most people.
But life has thrown us a slew of curveballs and we went our separate ways.
Life, family, jealousy—we let it all get in the way.
I’m a dad now, and my little girl is my world.
And after years apart, Presley is back in Cottonwood cove.
I don’t believe in fairytales or second chances.
My heart belongs to my daughter now, and there is no room for complications.
Presley Duncan is a giant complication.
A wise man would keep his distance.
But I never claimed to be a wise man.
So maybe we end up in a car together in the middle of a snowstorm.
Which leads to a hotel room with only one bed.
Maybe I should reconsider my stance on fairytales and second chances.
And seeing Presley with my little girl does something to me.
Stirs something inside of me that I thought was long gone.
But I know this is temporary.
She’ll be leaving soon, and I’m prepared to let her go.
Until she’s gone.
And I realize that I’m not prepared at all for life after the storm.

Release Blitz + Review: "The Grumpy Billionaire" by Annika Martin

I'm delighted to join the release blitz celebrating "The Grumpy Billionaire" by Annika Martin, book #8 of the Billionaires of Manhattan series. Characters from the previous books make cameo appearances in this one, but it reads as a standalone.

Following a tough breakup, branding expert Stella Woodward moves to New York City for a fresh start. She's excitedly preparing for the first day at her dream job when her prospective employer calls to inform her that they've decided to go in a "different direction" with the position. There's no job for Stella after all, and she's left scrambling to find another way to pay the bills. In an effort to be helpful, Stella's parents call her older brother's best friend, math genius Hugo Jones, who arranges a job for her in the admin pool at the hedge fund where he works. The only catch is that she must pretend not to know him. Swallowing her pride, Stella accepts the offer, though her gratitude quickly turns to anger when she finds out that Hugo is the reason she lost out on her dream job. This discovery sets off a battle of wills that each of them is determined to win.

This was such a fun story! Hugo and Stella were both incredibly likeable, three-dimensional characters, and their sparkling, witty banter kept me laughing all the way to the end. Even after ten years apart, their secret feelings for each other remained strong, and I couldn't wait for them to finally act on their attraction. Their personalities balanced each other perfectly and I loved cheering them on to their HEA.

I highly recommend "The Grumpy Billionaire" for all contemporary romance and rom-com fans and can't wait for the author's next release.

About "The Grumpy Billionaire"

I’m the most feared man on Wall Street…unfortunately, my best friend's little sister hasn’t gotten the memo.

I brandish equations like lightning bolts and shatter fortunes with mere scribbles on a whiteboard. People up and down Wall Street steer clear of me—or come to regret it.

My walls are impenetrable as Alcatraz, and my self-control? Rock solid, my friend.

Except when it comes to her.

The woman I've secretly longed for. The only woman I can never have.

My best friend’s little sister, Stella.

Growing up, she saw me as a heartless robot. It couldn't be further from the truth, but a promise I made to her brother binds me, and my code of honor is as rigid as my isosceles triangle.

I hadn't laid eyes on her for years, but now she's in the heart of Manhattan, and I've unintentionally sent her career into a nosedive. My solution? Offer her a job at my hedge fund.

Suddenly I’m the boss of her, faced daily with her sparkling eyes and gummy worm obsession–and her infuriating refusal to stay away from me.

Well, I buried my feelings for her once before. I’ll do it again—to the nth degree.

Review: "A Festive Feud" by Maren Moore

A Festive Feud

A Festive Feud by Maren Moore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Worthington and Pearce families of Strawberry Hollow have been at odds for decades, though the feud escalates each year around the holidays when they try to one-up each other with competing Christmas parties. This year, for the first time ever, their parents have entrusted Emma Worthington and Jackson Pearce with party planning responsibilities. They're both feeling the pressure when they run into each other at a local gift shop and get into an argument over a special collector's edition nutcracker, which each plans to use as a party decoration. $10,000 worth of accidental damage later, the sheriff locks them both in jail for the night - in the same tiny cell. Tired of the constant fighting between their families, the local mayor decides to punish Emma and Jackson by revoking the permits for their individual parties and forcing them to plan a joint party for the entire town. It's a disaster in the making unless they can figure out a way to put aside their differences and work together. If they're successful, the reward might be more than a fun holiday celebration; they may just end their family feud once and for all by falling in love.

The tension between Jackson and Emma was utterly delicious and pitch perfect from the start. I immediately felt their unwilling attraction towards each other and knew that it was just a matter of time before those feelings boiled over. When they did, the spicy scenes were absolute FIRE. That said, what I most loved was how cute they were together once they started to see each other in a different light. They stood up for each other and their relationship even though they knew that their families might object and helped bring about a long-overdue reconciliation.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this funny, sweet, and perfectly steamy story and highly recommend it for all contemporary romance and rom-com fans. Strawberry Hollow is a fun little town, and I hope the author will consider setting more stories there in the future.

Review: "No Pucks Lost Between Us" by Elise Faber

No Pucks Lost Between Us

No Pucks Lost Between Us by Elise Faber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"No Pucks Lost Between Us" by Elise Faber, book #6 of the Rush Hockey series, concludes the story of Billie Rose Donovan, mayor of River's Bend, and hockey player Joel Marshall. It is not a standalone, but rather should be read after the first two books of the trilogy, "Love, Pucks, and Other Stories" and "All's Fair in Pucks and War."

This story picks up shortly after the last one ended. Falsely accused of a crime she didn't commit, Billie Rose must figure out who is framing her and why before it's too late. I was honestly shocked by some of the secrets that came to light as she worked to clear her name, and I hope some of them will be explored further in future books of the series. Joel's belief in Billie Rose never wavered, and his fierce love for her absolutely melted my heart. After the emotional roller-coaster of these last three books, they finally ended up in exactly the perfect place. I was thrilled for them to finally get their HEA.

The book's epilogue sets up the next trilogy in the Rush Hockey series, which will apparently feature Joel's teammate Fox and Billie Rose's friend Dessie. I can't wait to find out what's in store for them after the craziness of this book's ending!

I highly recommend the entire trilogy for all contemporary romance fans and look forward to more books set in this world.
